A fierce game of Rummikub one year in France!

One of the best things about campervan life is slowing down, switching off (particularly from screens), and actually spending time together. Whether it’s raining outside or you’re winding down after a day of adventures, a few great games can turn an ordinary evening into one filled with laughter (and maybe a bit of friendly competition!).

Here are my top 5 board and travel games that we play time and time again and are our firm favourites!

1. Rummikub

An absolute classic. Rummikub is that perfect mix of strategy and luck – easy to learn, but it gets competitive quickly! It’s great for all ages, and you can easily play it on a smallish campervan table.

🧩 Why I love it: It keeps everyone thinking without being too serious – ideal for cosy evenings in the van.

🔥 Top tip: Get the travel version (in my link) – it’s compact and doesn’t rattle about while you’re driving!

2. A Simple Deck of Cards

Never underestimate the power of a good old-fashioned deck of cards. From Rummy to Wist to Chase the Ace, there’s always something for every mood and age.

🃏 Why I love it: Takes up zero space and can entertain you for hours – especially on rainy days or lazy mornings.

🔥 Top tip: Keep a notebook in the van and start a running “vanlife leaderboard” for your favourite games!

3. Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza

If you’ve never played this one, you’re in for chaos (in the best way). It’s a fast-paced, shouty, slap-the-deck kind of game that’s guaranteed to have everyone in hysterics within minutes.

🐐 Why I love it: It’s quick, hilarious, and totally addictive – ideal for evenings when you want something silly to play.

🔥 Top tip: Clear your table before playing – flying cards are inevitable, and don’t play late at night as it gets very noisy!!!

4. Travel Battleships

A brilliant old-school favourite that’s perfect for two players. Compact, easy to store, and ideal for keeping kids (or competitive adults!) entertained while dinner’s cooking.

🚢 Why I love it: It’s one of those games that feels nostalgic but never gets old and you can play it anywhere.

🔥 Top tip: Get the folding travel version (in link above) so pieces don’t get lost between van cushions!

5. Mexican Train

If you love dominoes, you’ll love this one. It’s a brilliant group game that’s part strategy, part luck, and completely addictive. The rounds can go on for hours – in the best way.

🚂 Why I love it: It’s perfect for long evenings under the awning with fairy lights and a glass of something chilled.

🔥 Top tip: Bring a little storage tin or pouch to keep the dominoes tidy between games.

🌟 Final Thoughts

When space is tight, your games need to earn their spot in the van, and these five absolutely do. They’re easy to pack, fun for all ages, and guarantee plenty of laughter no matter where you park up.

So next time you’re heading off on a camping trip, throw one (or all!) of these in your bag. Because nothing beats a night of games, giggles, and a few “just one more round” moments under the stars.
